The Memorial Cloth, bearing names of children who died as a result of residential schools, was carried into the ceremony marking Canada’s sixth National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The cloth signifies the efforts it took to verify the deaths and disappearances of Indigenous children at residential schools between 1831 and 1996. Prime Minister Mark Carney and Gov. Gen. Louise Arbour were among the leaders observing the day at Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Wednesday.
